A 3rd Pattern, cotton poplin (non-rip-stop) jungle jacket belonging to Robert Van Hall. Van Hall was a 1-0 (team leader) on RT Texas which was part of MACV-SOG OP-35. Based at the SOG compound at Kontum, known as Command and Control Central, CCC) the reconnaissance teams ran deniable missions into the tri-border area (Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia). Note the patch on the left chest, this is the patch worn by the Special Commando Unit (SCU). These troops were part of the Vietnamese Liaison Office, part of the Strategic Technical Directorate (STD) which was the Vietnamese counterpart of the US MACV-SOG. Also note the subdued insignia with the exception of the Vietnamese jump wing worn above the right chest pocket (these were a honourary award made by the Vietnamese to the US troops. There was a reciprocal arrangement as well).
