Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) - Honorary Member Jack Kull Update

As Jack himself says, when it rains it pours...here is the first of two updates from our honoray member Jack Kull. I'll let his own words do the talking.

"In November, I took our new director to Southeast Asia - Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam -- for his first oversight visit since being named director. Guess I need to back-up a bit: My old office, the Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) no longer exists. Long story, but in a nutshell, last year, DPMO, JPAC (Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command; based in Hawaii), and the U.S. Air Force's Life Sciences Equipment Lab (Wright-Patterson AFB, OH) merged to become the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA). The objective being to take the major DoD compents involved in the past conflict personnel accounting mission and merge them into one organization to increase efficiencies and effectiveness.

LTG Mike Linnington, USA-ret, became our first permanent director when SecDef Carter appointed him last June. The November 2015 TDY was his first opportunity to get to the region.

The attached pics are from our visit to a recovery site in Vietnam approximately 2.5 hrs south of Hanoi. We visited it on November 11, America's Veterans's Day (I know November 11 has importance on your side of the Atlantic, too).

Somewhere in the sludge immediately behind me, or in the field behind that, a U.S. Navy fighter was lost in 1965. We were there working with the recovery team trying to locate and recover the pilot's remains."
