The cleaning kit for the M16A1/XM177 rifle contained metal sectional rods fro cleaning the barrel, sometimes taped to the XM177 for easy access, and a selection of brushes, which were carried in a nylon pouch with a slide fastener on the reverse (though SOG recon teams would carry in their ruckasck not on teh belt) . Instructions on how to use the kit were given in the preventive maintenance manual that was produced in the style of a comic.
