The 7-pocket cotton M3 bandoleer was the standard way for 5.56mm ammunition to be issued, each pocket contained a 10rds on a stripper clip. The pockets could also hold a 20rd magazine and were used a field expedient ammo pouches for short patrols and would often be carried in a SOG team members rucksack as a back-up source of ammunition.
