Now if Secret Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines with the Elite Warriors of SOG by John L plaster is “The SOG book to read” then Running Recon this is the book to look at. But don’t let the hundreds of photos fool you into thinking this is just a nice photo book to look over like a kids book no sir!

Each and every page is filled to the brim with information on kit, missions, the teams, compound life, what it was like running recon and everything you can every think of to do with SOG. For someone with a keen interest in the Vietnam war and SOG Running Recon is by far the most essential book that should be on your list.

While looking over this book I couldn’t help but think that when Frank Greco was running recon himself between April 1969 to April 1970 that he had the idea of making this book as so much work had gone into the photos the subject matter and the content that I would be amazed if the concept was not born back in CCC bar one night. To think that all the paper work and photos of this secret Special Forces group known as the “Special Observation Group” should have been destroyed is a testament to the men that wanted no in fact needed the story of their fellow members out there for people like us to see and read.

Running Recon is like steeping into this scrapbook of covert operation group that the general public were never meant to know anything about. And just like Frank Greco did back in Vietnam in a lab fire on CCC base, this book would be one of the first things I would safe in a fire. So go get your copy today.
