This is the new Gen III ECWCS in ACU pattern currently being trialed by the 10th mountain Division in Iraq. These replace the current ECWCS in Woodland and Tri-Desert. The system works on a layering principal from a silk base layer through to a down/loft jacket, this is the Soft Shell layer.
It is cut like the ACU uniform and features all the Velcro badge and rank attachement points as well as the IR tabs on the shoulder pockets. The jacket has a concealed hood in the collar and is made from a light Gortex like showerproof material. There are versions with slanted Velcro for the Name and US Army tabs.
